Group Benefits

Group Benefits are a little different then classic insurance. In theory it does cover all the same things, however, people tend to have their health care insurance through group benefits, whereas life & critical illness insurance is often held personally.
Group Benefits are usually paid in part by the employer as an incentive to stay with a job. This is better than simply getting a raise because you do not have to pay taxes on the most o the benefits you receive, which can save a lot of money for the individual.

Two Parts of Group Insurance

Fully Pooled

Fully pooled group benefits are not effected by a abnormally high usage and it's cost remains relatively the same from year to year.

Fully pooled benefits are usually limited to the life, critical illness, & disability insurance. However, some insurance carriers do have Health Care benefits that are fully pooled.
Variable Cost

Variable Cost (Non-Pooled) group benefits are effected by how much the employees have used the plans. This can drastically change the price of the group benefits from year to year.

The most common variable cost insurances are Drug Plans, Dental, Vision, and massage therapy benefits. Since people may need very expensive drugs in some years and not others you can see the cost of insurance raise dramatically. This is something that all business owners and employees should understand before entering into a plan.
